About
Hi, I’m Gracie - I am a creative based in UK. I love to creatively express through music and writing. Welcome to my backyard playground.
I have a small YouTube Channel - Tiny Human Piano - where I share a catalog of arrangements and compositions of piano songs.
The channel name comes from me being a dink at 4ft 10 person who has tiny hands, to show that anything is possible with adaptation.
You can explore my work and creations in music, and if you dig them and want to learn through tutorials/ sheets head to sheet music.
I love to journal and want to up-skill in writing, and always loved the idea of documenting life, so thought.. why not make a public journal hence making this website and blog about being a fellow creative and arranging/composing.
Musical Background:
I’ve always been curious about music from a young age. When observing my brother and aunty play organ it followed with…“How do you do x, well show me” was a key phrase.
I had keyboard lessons between ages 4-18 years old and completed LCM grade 8, which was learning the foundations of music, and how to read sheet music which was amazing and set me up well.
Fast forward…
As a mid 20 year old I was curious about what it’s like to be in a band and create and perform music with others. So, I jumped at being in a indie-pop band (The Gaslights) where my world of music completely became eye-opening! I explored accompaniment, sound design, composition, performance, video creation/editing and ‘band' life’ and it really gave me a learning of what is possible with music.
Although I started on keyboard, I always had a love-interest in the piano.
This only greatened in the pandemic times, after closing up shop with the band. I was hooked on watching people arranging covers of songs on the radio with one instrument (the piano) and it blew my mind. I absolutely loved it.
I started buying and learning sheet music from my favourite creators Constantino Carerra and Katherine Kordova, The Theorist.
I lapped up every song that Ludovico Einaudi had produced in an attempt to absorb osmosis they’re way of doing things. I was so happy to play these songs. However, I hit a curve ball..
I struggled to find sheet music of songs that I liked and wanted to play and I was so disappointed and sad.
After a while of this, I got curious again… How do I do what they do? Can I do that? How do I do that?
For the past 5 years I’ve been deep diving into this topic of learning how to arrange and compose music for piano so that I can play any song that I wish.
In that time, I went through 4 teachers all sharing their wisdom with me and I picked up tips and tricks left right and centre. I
went through blog after blog, course after course that I could get my hands on that would develop aspects of skill development.
It was an enjoyable but an overwhelming slog. There wasn’t one place online or in a teacher which had the blueprint of learning this stuff.
It’s taken me years to pull everything together to learn the skills and mindset needed to arrange and compose songs but I’m delighted to say now I can!
What you will find on this website:
With this website I want to share back to the world, to document my journey to date in an honest way. Share what I’ve learnt, share mistakes, open up about the emotional, mind rollercoaster that comes with being a creative and creating music.
Be a one-stop shop for learning how to build arranging/composition chops all whilst having a full-time job. Create blog posts that I dreamed of finding 5 years ago.
Build a catalog of music that no-one has arranged before, as well as, some bangers!
Connect with like-minded people on the same/ similar journey.
The hope is that by doing this, it will help and provide some guidance to the next person who loves piano/instrumental music, but can’t find a sheet music or tutorial for their favourite song, who is curious - how do they do that?
